1600 pandas touch down in Hong Kong
By admin

French artist Paulo Grangeon arrived in Hong Kong this week to launch the month-long 1600 Pandas World Tour in Hong Kong: Creativity Meets Conservation event.

The event involves 1600 papier-m√¢ch√© pandas touring around Hong Kong’s major landmarks, before gathering at creative hub PMQ for a three-week exhibition, themed around pandas' state of endangerment.

Here, the public will be given the chance to design and craft their own papier-mâché pandas in support of the tour.

As part of raising awareness, the 1600 pandas – which come in six different designs and sizes – will be put up for adoption.

The cost to adopt one of these pandas ranges from HK$200 to HK$450 (AU$28 to $63), with all of the proceeds being donated to World Wildlife Fund Hong Kong for conservation and educational work.

Hong Kong Tourism Board chairman Dr Peter Lam welcomed the 1600 papier-mâché pandas to Hong Kong.

“The panda is one of the cutest animals in the world, and the 1600 Pandas exhibit is a meaningful project to raise awareness of the conservation of the endangered panda,” he said.

The pandas will meet and greet visitors from June 25 to July 17 in the new design and creative hub at PMQ, where local design tenants will be creating their own panda memorabilia to raise funds for WWF.
