Emirates has rolled out a new global electronic ticketing system that the airline says better enables passengers to book and fly on short notice.
An airline statement said the system allowed consumers to book e-tickets from Australia to any of Emirates’ 75 international destinations. The airline plans all destinations on its network to become e-ticket enabled within the next 12 months.
Emirates said the e-tickets currently were available through the airline’s own reservations facilities, and expected e-tickets soon to be available to travel agents via the Galileo GDS in Australia and New Zealand.
The airline expected to make e-ticketing available worldwide through most other GDS within a year.
“E-tickets are an affirmation of our customer-driven philosophy,” Emirates chairman Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum said. “They are technology-based, more reliable and highly secure.
“E-tickets are accepted practice in many markets throughout South-East Asia, Europe and the USA but we wanted to ensure that the Emirates system enjoys smooth and trouble-free implementation across our network.
“We have invested five years to achieve this objective.”
He said paperless tickets also supported the airline’s environmental policies.
