Air NZ Dreamliner gets black paint job

Air NZ Dreamliner gets black paint job
By admin

Air New Zealand's first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft has been painted black.

The airline says the paint job took 12 painters five days to complete and the finished job has been revealed at Boeing's Everett factory near Seattle.

It took about 350 litres of paint.

Air New Zealand is the global launch customer for the 787-9. It will operate the aircraft from Auckland to Perth from October 15, and to both Tokyo and Shanghai from November.

Delays have hindered the development of the Dreamliners but Air New Zealand says they are 20 per cent more fuel efficient than similar-sized aircraft and that should put downward pressure on airfares.

The aircraft is the first of ten 787-9 Dreamliners Air New Zealand is buying.
