The former head of Air Pacific – now Fiji Airways – in Australia, Victor Sharan, is to spearhead the local operation of Solomon Airlines.

He has been appointed regional general manager Australia, New Zealand and Asia and will take up the Sydney-based role today.

The carrier’s chief executive, Ron Sumsum, described Sharan’s arrival as an “opportune addition” to its management team with Australasia still its most important market.

Sharan’s “strong leadership, insight and understanding” of the South Pacific will help Solomon Airlines develop and implement its “core business plan objectives”, he said.

General manager operations and commercial, Gus Kraus, added:  “Victor recently retired from Fiji Airways and has a lot to offer our airline moving forward.

“It is timely that with our introduction of the fifth scheduled flight between Brisbane and Honiara, he comes on board to ensure we do not take our eyes off the ball in developing and expanding our network and our plans to take this airline to a status of ‘the best little airline in the South Pacific’.”

Kraus said in a statement that the carrier planned to explore new opportunities in Australia, NZ and Asia while maintaining market share and yield.

Although based in Sydney, Sharan will travel regularly to Queensland to oversee the Brisbane-based sales team and develop marketing initiatives, the airline said.
