Brisbane Airport looks forward to busy 2014

The number of passengers that passed through Brisbane Airport in 2013 broke records as the number climbed 1.4% on the previous year to hit 21.8 million – and that number is expected to rise even further this year with a number of major events scheduled to take place in Queensland.

International passenger numbers displayed the greatest growth, rising 4.8% on 2012 while domestic figures crept up by a more modest 0.6%.

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) chief executive and managing director, Julieanne Alroe, attributed the growth to the combined efforts of the BAC team and its airline, government, council, tourism and business partners to attract new business and opportunities to the city and state.

“In 2013 a number of major events attracted many people to Brisbane and Queensland and when combined with domestic and international airlines committing additional capacity to our network and offering competitive fares, it has a direct and positive impact on visitor numbers,” she said.

“Looking ahead 2014 promises to be busier still with a number of exciting events headed our way like the G20 in Brisbane and Australian Tourism Exchange in Cairns that will most certainly attract many more visitors both domestically and internationally and shine a light on the city and state.”

A cutting-edge $45 million redevelopment of the International Terminal is on the cards with BAC to complete its 2014 Master Plan later this year.
