Carnival Corporation has appointed Christine Duffy as its new president of Carnival Cruise Line, replacing Gerry Cahill who announced his retirement last month.

As current president of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), Duffy will commence in the role from February 1, and marks the first time a woman has been given the top job.

“Christine is one of the most respected and dynamic leaders in the travel industry,” Carnival Corporation ceo, Arnold Donald said in a statement.

Duffy brings more than 30 years of travel industry experience to the role prior to taking the job at CLIA, which represents some 13,000 travel agency members and 50,000 travel agents globally.
