Revealed: Who's 'engaged' at airports?

Men generally have a higher percentage of smartphone engagement at airports, except in Australia where women come out on top, according to a new report.

AdNear studied the engagement of more than one million travellers and their smartphone usage at 12 major airports in 9 countries, including Australia, Hong Kong, China, Tokyo, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines, and found Sydney and Melbourne airports recorded the highest engagement from female travellers.

According to a report on skift, Indian airports presented the lowest engagement for female travellers, but the highest out of all other airports for males.

The data showed travellers spend an average 65 minutes engaged on devices at the airports covered in the study, with Sydney Airport tapping into the least amount of time, at just 35 minutes. Singapore topped the list at 97 minutes, a minute ahead of that recorded at Hong Kong International Airport (96 minutes).

Monday was the biggest day for engagement at all airports, hitting a peak between 4pm and 6pm.
