Intrepid, Peregrine and Gecko’s Adventures will resume their Egypt departures from October 27, ending the suspension put in place when political unrest in the destination flared in August.

The operators, which all fall under the Intrepid Travel Group umbrella, cancelled trips through to October 26 citing concerns over the safety of their passengers.

After close monitoring of the situation, they have decided it is now safe to return to the destination, reporting steady improvements.

“With the help of our destination management company in Cairo, we have assessed that the situation has predominately settled – the government have relaxed aspects of their state of emergency, including the overnight curfew, and the streets have returned to calm,” group managing director James Thornton said.

“We are pleased to see our local DMC return to what they do best – our leaders are excited to be leading trips again, hotel staff are extremely welcoming to guests and the Egyptian people wish visitors an enjoyable stay in their country.”

However, the operators insisted the safety of their passengers remains its “highest priority” and confirmed they will continue to monitor the situation closely.
