Modern Family stokes US interest in Australia
By admin

The Australia-set episode of popular TV show Modern Family has been viewed by around 9.6 million Americans, with Qantas reporting a 25% spike in US visitors to its website in the days following its airing.

The episode, which also reached number one on iTunes Top TV Episodes list, aired locally on Network Ten last night.

With a global fan base of 22.3 million, the episode – a collaboration between Twentieth Century Fox and Qantas – is expected to promote Australia as a travel destination to 29 countries worldwide.

“Qantas is incredibly proud to be part of a project that showcases our country on such a large scale,” chief executive Alan Joyce said.

“It will take Australian landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the stunning Whitsunday region into lounge rooms across the globe.

“This episode gives the world a glimpse of Australian hospitality and culture – which as the national carrier and the biggest private investor in Australian tourism, we are proud to help make happen.”

Joyce also anticipated the show would encourage Australian audiences to explore the featured parts of the country as well.

It is the airline’s latest television initiative following its support of Australian special episodes of the Oprah and Ellen shows.
