Man feared overboard on cruise ship

The Sun Princess’ arrival into Sydney has been delayed and its next departure will be impacted as a rescue operation continues for a missing male passenger, feared to have fallen overboard.

Carnival Australia ceo Ann Sherry emailed staff this morning saying “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that an 84 year old male passenger was reported missing onboard Sun Princess, which was on the way to Sydney completing a 13-day New Zealand cruise”.

“Onboard CCTV has been checked and images sadly suggest that the passenger is likely to have gone missing overboard from the ship last night at around 8.40pm,” Sherry told staff.

“Our hearts naturally go out to the family of the passenger at this very worrying time as the police, maritime authorities and crew onboard Sun Princess do everything possible to locate the passenger.”

The Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Canberra is reportedly also involved in the search effort.
