Indonesia could scrap tourist visa fees
By admin

Australian holidaymakers to Indonesia may be allowed into the country free of charge, with the Indonesian government considering scrapping its visa-on-arrival fees.

The US$35 fee per entry could be scrapped for Australian nationals as well as China, Russia, Japan and South Korea as early as next year, according to Tourism Minister, Arief Yahya, as reported by AAP.

"Those countries are our main foreign tourist targets," he told reporters on Wednesday, as reported by Indonesian news website detik.com.

"Like China, its middle-class is huge and that has potential for us."

According to the report, a free short-term visa to visit Indonesia's five main tourist markets is being considered, as well as simplifying licenses to encourage more yachts and cruise ships to stop over in the country.
