Hilton HHonors, the hotel group’s loyalty programme, has potentially incurred a security breach leaving members susceptible to stolen points and fraudulent credit card charges.

According to a report on FlyerTalk, testaments have been received by its readers saying hackers are “finding their way into HHonors member accounts” and stealing points. The claim also extends to hackers using registered credit cards on the site to make unauthorised purchases of more points and accommodation at the hotel chain’s properties.

The report says the worst case so far has involved a Canadian man who was “hacked” in September and lost 250,000 points used to redeem hotel stays as well as additional purchased points using his stored credit card.

FlyerTalk stated the hacked points are then being on-sold online at “extremely deep discounts” starting at $1.60 for 30,000 to 39,000 points, with the website stating the points are from hacked accounts.

Hilton Honors integrated a new CAPTCHA system in early October, but are said to be given back any missing points despite the hotel company having not released any public statement regarding the issue.

Travel Today has attempted to contact a spokesperson from Hilton for comment before publishing.
