Flight Centre takes over Topdeck Tours

Flight Centre takes over Topdeck Tours
By admin

Topdeck has found its way back to its roots with the youth travel company forming a joint venture with Flight Centre.

The two businesses have a lengthy history together which originated with the Flight Centre chief executive officer Graham Turner, who was one of the original founders of Topdeck Travel back in 1973.

Topdeck Travel managing director James Nathan announced the change in ownership today, saying the company joint venture partnership is similar to the joint venture with Back-Roads Touring Co.

“More recently it became known to me that two of the shareholders in Topdeck Travel were going to sell their shares and I was very keen to ensure the legacy that was established with the purchase of the business in 2003 was preserved.”

“Our team is very comfortable with the new arrangement, which is based on the existing model with Back-Roads Touring,” Nathan said.

Topdeck Travel will continue to operate as an independent entity based out of headquarters in Brisbane and Chiswick, London.

Nathan will remain as the head of both businesses, supported by the current senior management and operations team.

Nathan commented on the changing times positively with Topdeck Travel experiencing an incredibly strong European summer season which saw a 30% growth.

“Today’s announcement is a natural platform to continue building for the ongoing success of the business,” Nathan added.
