Etihad boosts Melbourne service
By admin

The introduction of a Boeing 777-300ER to Etihad’s Melbourne-Abu Dhabi route from December 1 is a sign of the Australian market’s importance for the airline, according to the carrier.

The deployment of the larger aircraft will see 328 seats available in a three-class configuration – 36 more than the Airbus A340-600 which currently flies the sector. It represents an increase in the overall number of seats of 12% and a 25% rise in the number of business class seats.

Melbourne, in particular, is a standout destination for Etihad, the airline’s chief executive and president James Hogan remarked.

“Etihad Airways’ Melbourne–Abu Dhabi flights are some of the strongest performers in our network – this year load factors between the two cities have averaged more than 80 per cent,” he said.

The move will enable the airline to increase its share of both the corporate and leisure travel market in between Australia and Abu Dhabi, and beyond to its worldwide network, he added.
