Emirates sees sharp lift in market share

Emirates made further headway in Australia in May with the carrier close to capturing 10% of the international market.

The airline saw its share rise from 8.3% in May last year to 9.7%, well clear of Singapore Airlines whose share dropped from 9.4% to 8.8%.

Qantas retained the largest share, at 17.2%, down from 18.4% a year ago.

The latest official government figures show total international scheduled traffic climbed 8.5% in May to 2.28 million. Capacity shot up 7.5%.

Virgin Australia sat just outside the top three with a market share of 8.5%, followed by Jetstar with 7.4%, Air New Zealand 7.1% and Cathay Pacific 4.6%.
