All 20 gates at Emirates new dedicated A380 concourse at Dubai International Airport are now operational following a five-week trial.

Four gates were working during a phased opening of the facility, with 2,450 flights operating to Concourse A since January 2. It has handled almost 600,000 passengers.

Emirates said all 20 gates became operational yesterday after the "successful completion" of the trial.

"The full opening of Concourse A is a significant milestone and achievement in supporting and enabling the continued growth of Emirates," the airline's president Tim Clark said. "With a current fleet of 31 A380s and a further 59 on order, Emirates is the largest operator of this aircraft in the world and it is only fitting that we have a world class facility that meets this need and represents our leadership in this regard."

Concourse A, which spans 11 floors, is part of Dubai International Airport's Terminal 3 complex and is capable of handling 60 million to 75 million passengers per year.

Emirates and Qantas will serve 21 A380 destinations.
