Sydney will host two Major League Baseball games in Sydney in March with the events expected to attract visitors from within New South Wales, interstate and overseas.

US teams the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks will pay two games at the Sydney Cricket Ground to mark the start of the US Major League Baseball season.

The games, to be played over one weekend, are expected to be particularly popular with visitors from New Zealand and Asia.

Tourism and Transport Forum chief executive Ken Morrison anticipated the economic impact of the games would be in the order of "millions of dollars".

"Destination NSW and the NSW Government should be congratulated on their persistence in securing these unique events for Sydney and their investment in major events as a driver of tourism," he said.

"We are also highly supportive of plans to stage Major League Baseball games every four years in Sydney and we hope the success of these first games will lay the gourndwork for more to come."
