Avis has announced that Anne Hobbs, from Travelworld Kununurra, is the recipient of the 2013 Avis scholarship.

The scholarship scheme to reward service-focused agents is in its 17th year and this is the first time an agent  from Western Australia has won.

Hobbs has worked in the travel industry for seven years.

“Anne is a naturally warm and empathetic person who is passionate about her role and views every client as an individual with their own unique needs,” Avis travel industry manager Russell Butler said.

“All of this is underpinned by a commitment to constantly improving her skills and product knowledge, despite the challenges of working from a remote regional location.”

The announcement was made at Sydney’s Four Seasons Hotel and Hobbs received more than $40,000 in prizes.

The prize includes two return business class Qantas flights to New York as well as six nights in a luxury Manhattan hotel and seven days of Avis car rental.

On the education side, there is a first year tourism scholarship at Southern Cross University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management with support of $10,000 toward the first year of a three year Bachelor of Tourism Management.

Cruise Lines International Association will also provide cruise training modules, there is professional coaching from Polonius Resources as well as TIME (travel industry mentor experience) admission.

Avis will give Hobbs a one year position on their agents advisory board as well as a tour of their world headquarters in New Jersey.
