Tourism Ireland has reported a 53% increase in Australia and New Zealand visitation over the past four years during its biennial trade mission.

Out of all the inbound tourism markets, Tourism Ireland head of Australia and developing markets Jim Paul said Australia was “clearly the winner”.

In 2013, the average growth from Australia to Ireland was 16% compared to a European average of 6%, Paul said.

Ireland's lure was attributed to a favourable exchange rate, increased flights from Etihad and Emirates and nation-wide festival The Gathering last year.

“The big plus point is that they stay on average for 12 days. When you work that out in spend, it’s over 200 million euro,” Paul said.

For 2015, visitor numbers are projected to grow. “But we are not resting on our laurels,” Tourism Ireland Australia market manager Diane Butler said.

“Selling Ireland as a destination or as part of a multi-country Europe itinerary is working really well and is something we want to continue,” Butler said.

Tourism Ireland has launched their online training program with six modules for agents that can be accessed as required, entering and exiting as work allows.

Agents will need over 90% to become an Ireland specialist with opportunity to re-take the training.

The training can be found at http://irelandspecialists.com/
