Art and culture become tourism priority for Dubai

Art and culture become tourism priority for Dubai
By admin

As part of Dubai’s efforts to nurture a thriving culture scene, it will create museums in 14 metro stations across the city – part of an initiative by the Dubai Culture and Arts authority.

With culture to play a role in achieving Dubai’s goal to be the world’s most visited city, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Marketing (DTCM) and Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTTCM) have undertaken a number of projects and strategies in order to ensure this vision becomes a reality.

Issam Kazim, chief executive of DCTCM, revealed to media at Arabian Travel Market that a number of things are happening to ensure the future of culture in Dubai.

“On an infrastructural level there major developments, such as the historical district of Dubai, the redevelopment of Old Dubai and also the development of an opera house and the metro museums,” he said.

“We’re also looking at the museums across Dubai and seeing how we can enrich the experience itself.”

Each metro station will have a different theme, from contemporary art to historical heritage. Details are still yet to be finalised, and the metro stations won’t be launched until next year.

Another effort by the Dubai Culture and Arts authority to promote the culture, art and heritage of Dubai is the publication of ‘The soul of Dubai guide’. Officially launched at Arabian Travel Market, the guide will become available across the city and showcases the various cultural activities and locations across Dubai, from the art galleries of the Dubai International Financial Centre to the ancient Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood.
