A new way to the big apple

Air Canada will commence new direct services between Vancouver and New York later this month, a move which will potentially attract more Australian visitors to use Canada as a gateway to the big apple.

Currently its daily non-stop flights from Sydney to Vancouver arrive at 7:40am, and from 26 October, passengers can then opt to seamlessly connect on new flights to Newark Liberty International Airport, departing Vancouver at 9:15am.

The return flight from Newark will arrive in Vancouver at 9.50pm, giving passengers about 110 minutes before they board their homebound flight to Sydney.

Air Canada, general manager, Australia and New Zealand, Paul McLean described the new Sydney-Vancouver-New York service as an exciting development for the Australian market.

“Our daily Vancouver-Newark flights are perfectly timed because they provide Australian holidaymakers with a new and enticing way to indulge their affection for New York City," McLean said.

"They also create an opportunity for Australians to enjoy a two-nation vacation by slipping in a visit to Canada's spectacular west coast either on the way to the Big Apple or on the return journey.

"For business travellers – who can already avoid the notoriously long queues seen at some major US gateways by quickly clearing US Customs in Vancouver – the new connection establishes an efficient route to the United States' east coast."

Air Canada will switch to a larger Boeing 777-300, adding an extra 79 Economy Class per flight from 28 October.
