Outrigger puts faith in Bali market
Steve Jones

Outrigger has said it has no fears about opening its first resort in Bali next May – and revealed it is planning a second with two years.

Vice president operations Cliff Olsen denied it was a tough market to be targeting, insisting the destination still has much to offer.

He added that business was beginning to return.

“I read a lot about what’s happened to the market but when I travelled there it was marvellous,” Olsen said. “I was very taken by the people and the standards of service are so good.

“It is seeing business coming back, particularly out of Japan and Europe. We don’t see it as a risk. We see it as having confidence in the market.”

Outrigger’s first Bali resort, the 112-room O-CE-N, will open next May. Negotiations are continuing with wholesalers over inclusion in 2007 brochures.

Olsen said details of a second Bali property are expected to be revealed next month with a projected opening date of late 2008.

Thailand is also on the agenda with an announcement likely in the new year.

Olsen revealed in yesterday’s Travel Today that the brand is set to re-enter Australia within two years.
