Webjet and eBay deal goes live
Steve Jones

Webjet has today relaunched its lots of hotels website as its joint venture with eBay went live.

The commercial agreement will see eBay heavily promote the hotel link on its site which will direct customers to lotsofhotels.com.au.

The site is live today although a hotels category will not be added to eBay’s home site until Monday.

Webjet managing director David Clarke said the new design of the site will reflect the style and image of eBay.

While performing satisfactorily for the last six months, Clarke said the agreement with eBay will take the hotel only business to a new level. It will have 50,000 hotels, improved functionality with bookings taken 12 months in advance, he said.

“The lots of hotels site has been redesigned to reflect the format and logos of eBay,” Clarke said. “We believe it will substantially propel online hotel sales in the Australian market.”

With five million eBay members in Australia, Clarke said there was enormous opportunity to market the product, even though users going on to eBay are selling or buying goods, rather than looking for a hotel.

“eBay will aggressively market the hotels to its members. It will be supported by other media,” he said.

He added it was too early to forecast any earnings potential from the deal.
