Aircalin slashes fares

New Caledonian airline Aircalin is revamping its fare structure from October 4 in order to cut prices by up to 30 per cent and remove seasonality.

The new fares will not have to be booked in conjunction with hotel and other ground arrangements and will have no minimum stay requirements.

Aircalin ceo Jean-Michel Masson said the changes were made in response to consumer feedback.

“We’re responding positively to requests from holidaymakers and those with family or friends in New Caledonia who have no need for accommodation and activity packages, and to remain competitive - as we have always been - with other destinations in the South Pacific,” Masson said.

“And by doing away with seasonal surcharges and introducing flat year-round fares with no minimum-stay requirements, we’re making it easier for travellers and travel agents to understand in the simplest terms our prices and easy booking structures.”

The airline will maintain full in-flight and entertainment services when the changes come into effect on its Australia-Noumea flights on October 4.

New fares will start from $400pp return ex Brisbane and from $460pp return ex Sydney, excluding air taxes. Factors such as the length of time between booking and travelling and time away will make slight differences to fare prices.

Masson said Aircalin would continue to provide both economy class and business class services on its seven weekly flights from Sydney to Noumea and its three weekly flights from Brisbane.
