Probe follows DJ sudden descent

Investigations are underway as to why the cockpit windscreen of a Virgin Blue aircraft cracked, forcing the plane to make a swift descent during a flight from Townsville to Brisbane on Friday night.

Eight passengers were taken to hospital with headaches and bleeding noses after the pilots were forced to make a sudden drop in altitude from 34,000 feet to 10,000 feet, after discovering the windscreen crack.

Air Safety Investigation Bureau officers are examining the flight recorders from the plane, which is now back in action after having its windscreen replaced over the weekend.
