Online retailer rejects all-inclusive fares Steve Jones
Travel.com.au has said it fears it could become competitively disadvantaged if it reverts to all-inclusive pricing on its international flights.
Managing director Adam Johnson said some consumers may not be “fully-informed” and assume the retailer to be more expensive than competitors. The comments echo those of Webjet and Expedia, although both have opted to take the risk and include taxes and charges. Webjet is currently loading the fares.
“Our view is that we are not sure now well informed consumers are,” Johnson said. “We need to be comfortable in the competitive environment.”
He added that system limitations also make it extremely difficult to accurately load all-inclusive fares.
Zuji includes all taxes on advertised fares on its home page but on searches makes it clear the fare excludes surcharges. As with travel.com.au, consumers are made aware of the levies at the start of the booking process.
Managing director Peter Smith hinted that it could be “on the technology road map”
