Ex Continental chief to chair Cendant travel division

Cendant has named former Continental Airlines chief executive and chairman Gordon Bethune as chairman of its Travel Distribution Services (TDS) division.

Bethune will continue as non-executive chairman when Cendant completes the spin-off of the division early in the fourth quarter of 2006.

Cendant said Bethune would be tasked with recruiting a chief executive for TDS.

Along with Continental, Bethune has held senior positions at several other major airlines including Braniff, Western and Piedmont. He also served as a vice president and general manager at Boeing Corporation.
