Tourism Australia appoints Buckley as new MD
Steve Jones
Tourism Australia has appointed Geoff Buckley as its new managing director.
Buckley took over as acting MD when Scott Morrison left the post in August. He has since been credited with stabilising the organisation during an unsettling period.
“This appointment follows a lengthy process by the Board of Tourism Australia involving careful consideration of the very strong field of candidates from with Tourism Australia and also those external to Tourism Australia,” chairman Tim Fischer said.
“With more than 20 year of experience in tourism and his strong research background, Geoff was the outstanding candidate to lead Tourism Australia.”
Fischer said the board was impressed with his “professionalism, strategic thinking and attention to detail”.
Buckley also played a “pivotal” role in the development of Tourism Australia’s strategic plan, Fischer added.
