Midweek interview – Tim Hakins, product and marketing manager, Sportsnet Holidays

The great thing about my job is…

It combines two of my greatest passions – travel and sport.

The challenge for industry is…

To maintain the highest degree of customer service and specialised knowledge in our area.

My greatest achievement is…

Building a mud-brick house on weekends over five years with no power tools to help me.

The last time I feared for my life…

At 3:00am on August 17, 1999 when my hotel swayed and groaned during the terrible earthquake in Turkey.

I am obsessed with…

Anything Greek.

I try to relax by…

Lying on the beach (in summer of course).

I don’t understand why…

Kamakazi pilots wore crash-helmets.

My favourite food is…Moussaka (there’s a small restaurant on the island of Rhodes which serves individual moussakas in clay pots. It’s my little secret.

The best movie I’ve ever seen is…

I have two favourites, both directed by Werner Herzog. They are Fitzcarraldo, and The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser.

.

I am scared to death of…

Death itself. Actually I will be furious when I die, as I have so much that I want to do in life.

My worst habit is…

Getting out of bed early (according to my family).

I can’t live without…

Coffee.

I really wish I had…

A private jet.

My friends don’t understand why…

I barrack for the Adelaide Crows.

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be…

Osama Bin Laden, George Bush, Alexander the Great, and John Lennon – I think the conversation would be interesting.

The best holiday I ever had was…

At the age of 18 with three mates, in a Ford Anglia, driving from London to the east coast of Spain, and doing what 18 year olds do for four glorious weeks in the sun.
