Ireland: Gulf Air services ‘next best thing to direct access’
Byline goes here

Extra air capacity will help Ireland promote itself as a primary destination in Europe, according to Tourism Ireland general manager Monica Nerney.

The introduction of Gulf Airs new three-times weekly services from Sydney via Singapore and Bahrain to Dublin on December 1 were expected to help boost the number of Australian visitors to Ireland.

“It’s about the closest to direct access we’ve got,” Nerney said.

She said fares on the new service started from $1428 plus $275 tax, with a free stopover in Bahrain included.

The stopover included accommodation, a meal and visas to enter Bahrain.

“The great thing about that flight is that you arrive in Ireland feeling refreshed and relaxed without having to battle your way through Heathrow,” Nerney said.

“We want to encourage the growing perception of Ireland as a primary destination from this market, and Gulf will help that.”

In addition, Nerney claimed Virgin Atlantic was expected to add an extra flight from Hong Kong to London next year.

“They also promote their fares to Ireland,” she said.

Nerney said Cathay Pacific offered good connections to Ireland via Hong Kong and Amsterdam.
