Two more Pacific Sky cruises cancelled

P&O Cruises has been forced to cancel another two Pacific Sky cruises to allow extended work on the ship’s troublesome starboard gearbox.

The cruise line originally cancelled five cruises but was confident problems would have been fixed in time for its scheduled June 4 cruise.

But now this cruise, P520 (June 4) and the next, P521 (June 8) have both been cancelled.

“We feel it is best for all concerned to take this decision now, rather than later, to ensure our passengers have more time to make alternative holiday arrangements,” managing director Gavin Smith said.

“The extended work on the gearbox will ensure we return Pacific Sky to service in excellent condition.”

Smith said passengers booked on the cancelled cruises would receive a full refund of their fare plus a 20 per cent future cruise credit which could be used on any cruise booked before May 31, 2006, on any of P&O Cruises Australia’s three ships, Pacific Sun, Pacific Sky or Pacific Star.

“Non-refundable airfares” would also be refunded, he said.

A special toll-free number (1300 763 212) has been established to assist passengers with any queries.

The next Pacific Sky cruise is now expected to depart Brisbane on June 18 for the New Zealand winter cruise season.
