Ryanair ‘to be Europe’s biggest carrier’

Ryanair has predicted it will be Europe’s largest airline by 2012, when it will carry 70 million passengers a year.

The Dublin-based low-cost airline carried 35 million passengers in the financial year to March 2005, exceeding earlier predictions by 1 million as a result of strong advanced bookings for the northern summer.

The carrier reported a 19 per cent increase in passenger numbers for the full year to 27.6 million.

Ryanair recorded an after-tax profit of EUR268.9 million ($438 million), which was also 19 per cent ahead of last year.

Revenue climbed 24 per cent to EUR1.34 billion ($2.18 billion)..

Ceo Michael O’Leary said in a statement the airline’s outlook for the coming 12 months was more positive than it was at this time last year.
