Just over 52,000 arrived on Australian shores compared with 57,000 last September. In the nine months to the end of September, arrivals have fallen 5 per cent.

China, excluding Hong Kong, however sent 27,700 people to Australia during the month, a rise of 26 per cent on last year. Korea saw a 28 per cent increase.
