No move from Creative on commission

No move by Creative on commission

Creative Holidays has said it is too early to say whether it will follow moves from fellow Travel Corporation wholesalers to reduce agents’ commission.

General manager sales, product and marketing Andrew Yell said it would look at its structure at the end of November after the majority of its product for 2007 had been contracted.

Coach operators Trafalgar Tours and Insight Vacations have both cut commission from 14 per cent to 13 per cent as they look to reduce increasing distribution costs. Globus also said it will reduce its payments.

“We look at it every year but have not had any meaningful discussion yet,” Yell said.

Webjet receives ‘please explain’ on price

Webjet has been asked by the Australian Stock Exchange to explain the huge increase in its volume of trading. It follows a surge in its share price from 34 cents to 42 cents with more than 16 million shares traded in the past two days.

Asked by the ASX if it could explain the trading, Webjet said it had “no information” that could clarify the activity.

“Other than the positive reaction to the performance of Webjet and the general market interest in the Internet travel sector, the directors are not aware of any other explanation for the recent increase in the sale price,” the company said.

Talking up drought-affected areas

Tourism minister Fran Bailey has urged tourists to holiday in drought-affected areas to help regional tourism.

Speaking at the launch of a domestic tourism initiative with Channel 7, she said “every dollar spent” would help communities “badly affected by the drought”.

The My Australia campaign will feature 20 vignettes of Channel 7 TV celebrities encouraging travellers to ditch overseas holidays in favour of domestic breaks.
