Technology Guide: Tools of the trade: a new range of solutions on offer
Byline goes here

Travel technology suppliers are preparing to unveil a variety of new products, ranging from web booking engines to customer relationship management tools.

TIAS’ latest offering, FlightScanner, is a web-based booking engine that gives agents access to real-time fares from 60 low-cost carriers spread across Europe, the US, Africa and Australasia.

The company claims the product – available through its Traveltools portal – will give retailers an edge over consumers when it comes to booking products online, while enabling them to develop a new service-fee based revenue stream.

Amadeus has scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2006 an “entry-level” B2C online booking engine, Amadeus + IBE, for small leisure agencies to add to their websites.

“We’ve identified a need for something that’s a little less sophisticated than what our major corporates use, which basically allows agents to enter the online distribution field without having to do any development of their own,” Amadeus general manager of sales and marketing Damien Leonard said.

“It is basically the first stepping stone for an e-commerce strategy for agents that are not already in that space, which they can upgrade as their needs increase.”

Later this year, Amadeus will also release its Agent Customer Relationship Management tool, which Leonard said would allow agents to conduct more targeted marketing to their clients.

The browser-based system can be integrated into Amadeus’ back office system or used independently.

Sabre Pacific is focusing on developing its My Sabre portal by identifying new suppliers and incorporating their products with the system.

My Sabre will also be integrated with the company’s mid-office system Sabre Agency Manager in the next three months.

“With the portal, we want to create a one-stop shop for agents and in terms of making life easier for agents it is all about integrating our products with each other,” Sabre sales and marketing manager Richard Thame said.

In a bid to streamline agents’ workflow, Sabre said it would also integrate its Service Fee Manager with its Payline online credit card payment tool and Sabre Agency Manager in the next three months.

Tramada Systems executive director David Lanning said the company was preparing to roll out its integrated Web:Res online booking engine in September.

The engine would allow clients of corporate agents to book their own domestic travel online.

“I think you can also expect us to release an interface to an expense-management area in the next six to 12 months,” Lanning said.

He said Tramada had developed Web:Res in order to give agents access to the different distribution channels.

“Websites are becoming a big alternative to the GDS,” he said.
