Hostage tour leader talks

The Chinese travel consultant who negotiated with a hostage taker in the recent bus hijack horror has spoken for the first time about his experience.

In an exclusive interview to be published in next week’s Travel Weekly, Eric Wang praised the bravery of the 48-year old New South Wales agent who was held as hostage while nine other Australian women were freed. “She remained calm throughout and was amazingly brave,” he said. Wang reveals that the agent also showed the hijacker pictures of her family and asked about his family as the three hour drama unfolded. Wang acted as translator, staying with the agent during the whole ordeal.

Wang also praised the police and Chinese government authorities for the master plan they conducted to bring the hostage situation to its conclusion.

The drama unfolded in the Chinese city of Xian, when a man boarded the travel agent’s bus with explosives strapped to his body.
