“You can’t have a fat passport and a narrow mind”: Trafalgar

With up to 70 per cent of Aussies holding passports, it’s no secret we’re well-travelled wanderers, and that’s exactly the sentiment Trafalgar is tapping into with its latest ambassador.

Patricia Schultz is a New York Times best-selling author, with one of her books being ‘1000 Places to See Before you Die’, which she talked about at an event earlier this week in Sydney.

Guests mingled over drinks and canapés, flicking through the fresh pages of the new 2018 Trafalgar North American, Europe Preview and Asian brochures. The evening was complemented with a panel discussion with Patricia Schultz, Trafalgar Australia’s Managing Director Matthew Cameron-Smith and AFTA CE0 Jayson Westbury offering top travelling tips for their guests.

Patricia’s books, which also include ‘1000 Places to See in the United States and Canada Before You Die, are responsible for providing the inspiration to many bucket lists around the world.

Having ticked off 80 per cent off her 1000 places listed, Schultz’s mantra is simple:

“You can’t have a fat passport and a narrow mind. Travel makes us better people. Travel is a gift.”

Labelling herself as an ‘independent traveller’, she admitted that she was curious about a ‘guided holiday’ and what it would entail. However, after experiencing Trafalgar’s 10-day Prague, Vienna and Budapest, she was concerned no more.

“I was a convert – I realised I wouldn’t have seen and learnt as much as I did with Trafalgar if I tried to explore these magical cities on my own.”

Schultz shared one of the many Be My Guest experiences on offer, her group immersed themselves in the culture and dined with a local family in Budapest at their third-generation vineyard.

“To meet this family and hear their stories was something truly memorable, they spoke of how their wine cellars were used as a hiding place for the Jews during the Second World War,” she said.

But her main point?

“Don’t wait until it’s too late to travel. There is no guarantee if you’re waiting around for your friends / partner children to get their act together… Just GO!”

Now that’s something we can get on board with.
