The alleged passport of 123-year-old Swami Sivananda.

If the images that have emerged are anything to go by, the man’s passport claims he was born 8 August 1896 – making him the oldest person in the world.

According to reports, he has been trying to have his age confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records for three years.

However, it is hard verify his age as the only records come from “a temple register”.

“I lead a simple and disciplined life. I eat very simply – only boiled food without oil or spices, rice and boiled daal (lentil stew) with a couple of green chillies,” The Sun reported him as saying.

“I avoid taking milk or fruits because I think these are fancy foods. In my childhood, I slept many days on an empty stomach.

“Discipline is the most important thing is life. One can conquer anything with discipline in food habits, exercise, and sexual desires,” he said.
