World Journeys makes it official

World Journeys has described the Australian appetitite for its product as ‘miraculous’ after softly entering the Australian market earlier this year.

“We’re not here to take Australia by storm, we are here to service the upper end of the Australian market,” World Journeys director Chris Lyons said.

The New Zealand-based company describes its brand as high-end, tailor-made travel which emphasises service, integrity and quality.

“We are not directly competing with online, we are value adding,”  Lyons said.

World Journeys exclusively revealed to Travel Weekly that half their bookings were for South America and Africa itineraries, where clients are looking for security.

Lyons said one of the ways they hand-craft trips for travellers is by putting extra thought into the itinerary. For their Peru trip, clients land in Cusco but to avoid altitude sickness are directly transferred to the lower altititude at the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Hot destinations for 2016 include Galapagos and Cuba, a destination where they are struggling to keep up with demand.

A destination Australians won’t be familiar with is Sudan and Etiopia, new for the 2016 brochure. “Sudan has more pyramids than Egypt,” Lyons said.
