Where winter getaways are hot in 2016

Bali is the hot getaway option this winter internationally, and Melbourne for those staying on home soil, according to travel planning and booking site, Tripadvisor.

The 2016 Winter Vacation Value Report reveals the top 10 destinations for Australian travellers this winter based on booking interest, along with the average one-week holiday costs for hotels, airfare, meals and tours.

The new seasonal report helps guide Aussie travellers in finding the best savings at popular travel destinations, both within Australia and across the globe, by highlighting the least expensive week to visit various destinations.

TripAdvisor spokesperson Joanne Kershaw said Aussies have so many options to escape the winter each year.

“Whilst destinations such as Port Douglas, Hamilton Island and Noosa are popular and affordable throughout the winter months, the report revealed that August is the least expensive time to book an overseas trip to places including Hawaii, Fiji and parts of Europe,” Kershaw said.

Bali ranked in top spot with an average cost of $2,287 for a week including flights, hotel, meals and tour. It was however not the cheapest option, with Phulek in Thailand coming in far less at $1788 for an average week with same inclusions.

The most expensive option for a week away in August was New York, costing an average of $5718.

Domestically, four of the ten least expensive weeks for holidays starting on May 30, late May proves to be a great value time to visit these popular destinations.
