What old people want

What old people want

The slightly older branch of travellers are fast becoming one of the hottest and biggest spending clientele.

The Baby Boomers are all grown up, and you can bet your bottom dollar they’re treating themselves to some serious overseas adventures.

But where are they going, and which destinations are on their bucket list?

From sizzling Seychelles, the magical Maldives, and colourful Cuba, Staysure has done the math to help agents figure out just how to sell to the over-50s market.

After polling customers, Staysure came up with some fascinating results, with 30% of participants listing Seychelles as a must-visit, and 16% listing China as a dream holiday destination.

Asked if any movies had inspired wanderlust in customers, a huge 71% reported that they had been influenced to travel places after seeing the sites on the big screen.

The top destination was Salzburg in Austria, with 32% saying they were inspired to visit after watching The Sound of Music. Another popular movie hotspot with 24% of those polled was Rome – thanks to the 1953 flick Roman Holiday, starring Audrey Hepburn.

And when it comes to favourite holiday activities, it’s no surprise that trying the local cuisine scores highly – as a staggering 88% like to eat out on holiday. On the other hand, only around half enjoy shopping, while 61% like to soak up the sunshine and top up their tans.

One of the most interesting aspects of the survey was finding out what activities were on people’s bucket lists. The most popular, at 76%, was to see more of the world, while 29% were keen to learn another language. What’s more, it seems there are a few budding wordsmiths out there too, with 17% eager to write a book – maybe the next ‘Eat, Pray, Love’.

But enough of us yabbering – check out the stats for yourself!
