What makes Aussie travellers tick?

Australians are renowned for their propensity to travel, but a new report reveals new insight on what factors trigger wanderlust and what keeps holidaymakers craving more.

The Club Med #ThoseHolidayMoments Study of more than 1,000 adults revealed several key insights on the Aussie traveller:

Australian travellers divided on action vs. relaxation

Aussies are divided when it comes to the types of holiday they prefer with nearly half (54%) saying they think trying new activities is what makes a holiday special, while the other half (53%) prefer doing nothing at all while they’re away.

Memories are the new travel souvenir

When asked about the most important souvenirs from a holiday, respondent omit physical treasures and instead list having memorable stories to tell (67%), providing a place to ‘escape to’ mentally during daily routine (63%) and being able to reminisce about a trip with loved ones (52%) as the most important souvenirs from a holiday.

Family fun remains a top priority

Family friendly resorts are the most popular holiday destination amongst Australian families (70%), but keeping the kids happy has never been more important. Parents believe the key to keeping their children happy on holiday is access to lots of fun activities or sports (68%), plenty of entertainment (61%) and indulging the kids with treat food and drinks (53%).

Passion is paramount for young parents

Romantic getaways are most popular among those with young children (45%), and the majority of parents of young children (59%) say that just spending time reconnecting with their partner is enough to make a holiday special. As many as 42% of those with young children say that returning home more in love with their partner would make the perfect holiday for them.

Gen Y leaving the travel party

Often ridiculed for their partying ways, it seems Gen Y may be swapping the dance floor for more cultural experiences. One in three (31%) would prefer to learn a new activity while on vacation and only 13% of Gen Y thinks parties every night make for the perfect holiday.
