Veriu brings another hotel to Sydney

Following the successful opening of Veriu Broadway in June, Veriu Hotels & Suites has announced a new 110-room hotel located at the gateway to Surry Hills near Sydney’s Central Station to open in November.

Veriu Central is a $15 million conversion of the heritage listed ‘Wentworth House’ and will add to the thriving dining scene of this inner city precinct, offering five quality restaurant and bar venues on-site.

Veriu Central, located at 75 Wentworth Avenue, Surry Hills, will remain true to the eccentric character of the building, combining old world elegance with contemporary style that exudes the past and embraces the energy and personality of modern day inner Sydney.

Just as Veriu Broadway captured an industrial warehouse feel, Veriu Central will embrace the characteristics of its turn of the century architecture.

“One of the foundations of the Veriu brand is to incorporate the unique elements of each building and provide guests with a different experience each time they stay in one of our hotels,” said Rhys Williams, Director of Veriu Hotels & Suites.

“It’s our point of difference that no hotel is the same – but the core value of creating great spaces to enable guests to explore the local surroundings and feel connected to the city is consistent throughout the network.”

Veriu Central’s multi-venue street level dining precinct will offer five food and beverage options for guests and locals to enjoy, situated in a ‘sweet spot’ between Central Station and the Surry Hills dining strip.

Guests will be invited to check in at The Drawing Room, an eclectic and modern interpretation of a classic 1920s design, that combines the traditional hotel lobby space with a vibrant bar and eatery.

The heritage building, now home to Veriu Central, boasted an opulent drawing room in the roaring 20’s, created for entertaining guests with music, intellectual debate, drinking and laughter.

Veriu’s, The Drawing Room, is designed to evoke the same feeling of conversation, frivolity and recreation all with a generous dose of style and decadence. An all-day grazing menu will be available through to late night drinks at the art deco style bar.

Celebrated Sydney hospitality experts, Applejack Hospitality – famous for outlets such as The Butler Potts Point and Bondi Hardware – have provided the creative framework for The Drawing Room and two other venues: Harry’s Dumpling House and Harry’s Singapore Chilli Crab, which will offer Asian street hawker style food and craft beers, both accessible from the hotel lobby.

Established modern Australian restaurant, Nel, will also become part of the Veriu Central dining precinct.

The unique bunker-esque style venue has become a popular favourite for locals since opening in 2015 and offers a degustation menu that changes every six weeks to enable Australia’s best seasonal produce to be showcased.

Basket Brothers café will be the go-to breakfast, brunch or lunch venue for guests offering all the staples – great coffee, and a menu often described as ‘next level comfort food’.

Veriu Central’s 110 rooms and suites offer everything from functional spaces for one or two night stays in a ‘Deco Room’; a more spacious suite with queen bed in an ‘Elizabeth’ Suite or ‘Botanic’ Suite with queen bed and balcony; the Foveaux and Modern Suites with luxurious king beds and separate living space; or the Wentworth Suites offering king bed and sofa bed plus kitchenette facilities.

All rooms and suites offer 32” or 40” LED TVs, minibar and in room safe. The Wentworth suite also offers a pod coffee machine and microwave.

The signature Veriu complimentary ‘explorer bikes’ will also be on offer, encouraging guests to discover the surrounding Sydney villages of Surry Hills, Chippendale, and even down to the CBD and Circular Quay. Other standard complimentary offerings common to all Veriu properties, include a welcome drink, WiFi and in-room tunes via Smart TV technology.
