TripAdvisor steps in after restaurant roasted for issuing tourists huge bill

Travel and restaurant review giant TripAdvisor has “temporarily suspended publishing new reviews” for a Roman restaurant after it copped some serious negative attention over a bill it issued to a group of tourists.

According to a photo of the receipt shared online by the diners, they were charged a whopping $132 for two burgers and three coffees at Caffe Vaticano, which is located opposite the Vatican – one of Rome’s tourist hotspots.

The Sun reported that the outrageous bill prompted more people to share their expensive experiences at the restaurant, with some warning that it doesn’t display its prices on the menu, so much so that TripAdvisor has been forced to temporarily halt reviews of Caffe Vaticano on its platform.

“Due to a recent event that has attracted media attention and has caused an influx of review submissions that do not describe a first-hand experience, we have temporarily suspended publishing new reviews for this listing,” TripAdvisor’s website says.

The restaurant has over 1800 reviews with an average rating of 1.5 out of five.
