Feeling a little wanderlust lacking?

Need some inspiration for your next trip before yet another day in the office, staring at the screen, wishing you were somewhere else goes by?

Look no further. TripAdvisor is back with the goods.

The travel giant has published its Traveller’s Choice awards for 2015, revealing people’s top 25 locations to go and don a cool outfit, eat some strange food and experience another culture.

But as you scramble to scroll down the list, looking for your home town of Melbourne or Cooper Pedy, stop yourself.

Old ‘Straya only just scraped in – at number 25. Better luck next year.

Turning our heads to Aussie shores alone, naturally old Sydney took the top spot, but overall, it was Queensland who dominated the list.

The sunny state scored spots 3, 4, 5 and 8, with Brisbane, Cairns, Port Douglas and Noosa, respectively.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk says Brisbane’s youthful energy has led it to be named as one of Australia’s top destinations among travellers.

“We have a youthful and contagious personality that embraces visitors with our vibrant, relaxed urban outdoor lifestyle,” Cr Quirk said.

“We have a thriving cultural and events scene with exclusive shows, major sporting events and important international exhibits.”

The TripAdvisor accolade follows recent praise of Brisbane in local and international media outlets such as CNNGo, the UK Guardian, Fairfax Traveller and Rough Guides, which named Brisbane as the world’s eighth most-beautiful city in a reader poll.

Melbourne, Hobart, Margaret River, Adelaide and Cessnock were among the other top 10 destinations for Australia.
