TRAVEL HACK: Here’s how to get business perks in economy

Going to the US anytime soon? We’d recommend Qantas.

Why? Because you can lie flat and not be in First or Business Class!

Let us explain: Pedestrian recently uncovered a 2016 thread from the Australian Frequent Flyers forum which claims that travellers can purchase entire rows of seats for less than $250. Yes, seriously.

Dubbed ‘comfort rows’, this luxury will cost you way, way less than a regular seat upgrade, but you’ll be able to lie flat as you would in Business or First Class. It may not be as comfy, but it sure beats trying to get to sleep sitting upright.

But here’s the catch: as far as we know, the perk is only available for passengers flying from Dallas Fort Worth to Sydney on QF8 – Qantas’s second-longest non-stop flight.

The reason said empty rows are available (or empty in the first place) is because, seeing as the QF8 route is super duper long, Qantas intentionally leaves rows of seats unsold in Economy to cut down on weight.

And depending on availability, travellers can purchase these empty rows either at the check-in counter or at the gate!

The frequent fliers on the forum claim this benefit can’t be bought online or ordered over the phone, and is only available on the Dallas route. Which means we know where we’ll be connecting next time we fly to the US.
