Tourists are spending a record amount of money in Australia right now

Tourism spending both national and international has skyrocketed to a record $107.4 billion as Australia continues to welcome a record number of visitors.

The International Visitor Survey (IVS) for year ending March 2018, which was released today, has found a record six per cent increase from last year equating to an additional $5.8 billion has been pumped into the Australian economy.

International visitors aged 15 years and over reached a record 8.3 million, up 8 per cent, with spending increasing to $42.3 billion.

Combined with the $65.1 billion spent by domestic tourists, revealed in last month’s National Visitor Survey (NVS), total overnight visitor spending reached a record $107.4 billion for the year ending March 2018.

The results show Chinese tourists are still the biggest spenders, with a 13 per cent increase to $10.9 billion, accounting for 52 per cent of the total international spend.

The largest growth, however, came from India with a 14 per cent growth to 1.5 billion.

In terms of actual visitors, it seems China has overtaken New Zealand as our biggest fans:
