Tony South to be new Tourism Australia Chair

Tony South to be new Tourism Australia Chair

Tourism Australia is gearing up for a new chairman, with Federal Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Robb yesterday announcing Tony South as the new man for the job.

Speaking at yesterday’s TTF Leadership Forum, Robb said Tony South had been a leading contributor to the tourism industry for many years and is extremely well qualified to carry out this important role.

“Having held senior commercial and executive roles across the Asia Pacific, Tony brings excellent skills and experience to the role of Chair. His long standing commitment to tourism means he will provide strong leadership to the industry more broadly,” Robb said.

“Tourism Australia promotes our compelling tourism story to the world through leading campaigns such as There’s Nothing Like Australia and its food and wine campaign Restaurant Australia.”

In making the announcement Robb thanked outgoing Chair Geoff Dixon, whose term expired June 30 2015.

“Geoff Dixon oversaw a highly successful period for Tourism Australia with numerous award-winning campaigns and record arrival numbers. He is to be congratulated for his significant contribution and I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

South has served on Tourism Australia’s Board since July 2014 and is currently acting as the interim deputy-Chair, after Geoff Dixon stepped down in June.

“Tony is obviously well-known to myself, Tourism Australia and to the broader Australian tourism industry, where he is well-respected and will bring a wealth of valuable industry experience to the role,” Tourism Australia’s managing director John O’Sullivan.

“Tony has served on Tourism Australia’s Board since July 2014, has chaired our Audit Committee and is currently acting as the interim deputy-Chair. We envisage a very smooth transition.”

Robb also said an announcement would be made in the near future on three new directors to join the Board.
