These infographics show that Australian tourism numbers are higher than ever

BREAKING: Australia is one of the most popular countries in the world! And we have the infographics to prove it.

Newly released figures have revealed Australia’s tourism industry is booming, with our country boasting an impressive 8,263,000 total tourist arrivals in 2016, a 37 per cent increase from 2012 figures. Which is suuuuper impressive – we’ve even beat out the US and UK!

And obviously, we have the facts in picture form, because it is Friday after all.

The figures, collected by Austravel, revealed that an increase in Australian tourism rates have trumped both the UK and US, with the UK seeing an increase of 21 per cent and the US only two per cent compared to Australia’s 37 per cent rise. Don’t worry guys, there’s always next year.

The land of Aus has seen the biggest increase in personal holidays, with a 45 per cent leap. There were 6,637,000 holidays taken in the country for either leisure or recreation in 2016, in comparison to 4,577,000 in 2012.

The US is hot on our tail though, with a 30 per cent increase, taking 2012’s figures from 23,690,000 trips to 30,823,000.

Business travel has also seen an increase in the number of people travelling here for business purposes, with a 12 per cent increase across the four years in recent measurements.

The boom in tourism is also boosting Australia’s economy. Figures released by Australia’s Tourism Minister, Steve Ciobo, have revealed that international tourism has brought in a staggering $41.3 billion in the 12 months to December 2017, a six per cent growth on the previous year.
