The crooked road less travelled

Everyone wants to be the traveller who went off road and found something great, but when we’re all as clueless as each other, how do we do it?

Now Aussies are being summoned to the offbeat tracks and dingy corners of the globe, with new travel app Crooked Compass guiding travellers beyond the tourist traps.

Travel industry professional and founder of the app Lisa Pagotto says she has created a holistic platform for travel, to take Aussies from novice to seasoned explorers.

Crooked Compass features information on over 1000 unique travel experience, interactive maps, a bucket list creator and must-know insider info.

“The Crooked Compass Travel App is a great tool for travellers who have ‘been there, done that’ and want something exciting and unique to add to their travels,” Pagotto said.

“It’s also for those who are not interested in seeing the stock-standard tourist sights and want to discover the soul of a destination or experience the culture like a local.”

The Crooked Compass app is aimed at bringing rare and raw experiences to the everyday traveller, spanning across 134 countries and covering 11 categories.

From adrenalin-fulled adventures and animal encounters to eating like a local, snowshoeing through the Mesa Verde and sleeping in a vintage 727 aircraft, the app hopes to give new insights into little pockets of the globe.

The app then goes one step further, providing details on when is the best time of year to experience the activity, where it’s located, how to get there, how much it costs and how to book it.

“With all this information in one platform and insider tips personalising each experience, travellers can spend their time discovering these unique experiences rather than being stuck in an internet café researching what to see and do,” Pagotto said.

“The easy-to-use interface connects directly with Facebook and Twitter allowing recommendations to be shared or for bragging rights for those who love to flaunt their travel conquests to friends and family.

“An ‘Experience of the Day’ is also featured each time a user opens the app, helping to inspire while the bucket list creator fuels the fire for future adventures.”

Off the back of Lisa’s recent round the world trip, further experiences will be added to the app, including unique experiences from as close as Mudgee, and as far away as Azores, Madrid and Oman.
